I was therefore delighted to discover in 2016 that a fellow member of Derwent Fly Fishing Club had developed a website that allowed members to book beats, submit catch returns, and, most importantly, add diary notes and upload photos. These diary entries are private by default, but members can choose to make them public, which is a great help to those who are unable to visit the river regularly.

"Derwent Fly Fishing Club owns fishing on 21 beats of the Derbyshire Derwent and, alongside superb trout and grayling fishing, operates a beat‑booking system that allows members to book one or two beats in advance for exclusive use on the day.
The online booking system supports this process extremely well, giving members a continuous view of fishing pressure on each beat—an invaluable tool when choosing where to fish. Members then complete their catch returns, recording the numbers, sizes, and species of fish caught, all of which is captured by the system. Anglers can also choose to submit a more detailed fishing report, including methods used and photographs.
We now hold 10 years of data, with a 96% catch‑return rate, giving us accurate and consistent information for all beats throughout the season. This data is essential in helping the club manage the fishing for the benefit of all members.
While not unique, the beat‑booking system we use is an essential part of the DNA of Derwent Fly Fishing Club, and the online beat booking and catch‑return system continues to provide real value to both the club and its members".
