When entries are left too long, details can be forgotten and the sense of spontaneity is lost.<br>I was therefore delighted to discover in 2016 that a fellow member of Derwent Fly Fishing Club had developed a website that allowed members to book beats, submit catch returns, and, most importantly, add diary notes and upload photos. Members then complete their catch returns, recording the numbers, sizes, and species of fish caught, all of which is captured by the system. Anglers can also choose to submit a more detailed fishing report, including methods used and photographs.<br>We now hold 10 years of data, with a 96% catch\u2011return rate, giving us accurate and consistent information for all beats throughout the season.
